Dr. James Pellicane is a general surgeon who has been in practice in Richmond for the last 14 years. In September of 2005, identifying a need for a full service breast center in the Richmond area, Dr. Pellicane opened the Virginia Breast Center, the first comprehensive surgical breast center in Central Virginia. It remains the only center where a woman can get her mammogram and if needed an ultrasound, surgical consult and a breast biopsy all in the same day with her biopsy results usually obtained within 24 hours.
In December of 2008, Virginia Breast Center affiliated with Bon Secours Virginia, joining the Bon Secours Medical Group. This affiliation, together with the Bon Secours infrastructure and mission, has enabled VBC to begin work towards offering world class breast care to all parts of the city and beyond. Dr. Pellicane currently sees patients at St. Francis Medical Center and St. Mary’s Hospital and is the Director of Breast Oncology at the St. Francis Cancer Institue.
Dr. Pellicane and his wife Kerry have been married for 21 years. They have 3 children, Mallory, Madeline and Nolan. Mallory is currently a nursing student and has worked part time at VBC since the summer of 2008. Madeline is a junior at Trinity Episcopal and Nolan is in 5th grade at Bette Weaver. Kerry’s mother, Bette, is a 22 year breast cancer survivor.
