Pink Tie Gala 2010

RAISING AWARENESS IN RICHMOND

 Hardy
(“The Dancing Machine”)

 Age- 54

Occupation –

Business Banking Analyst for a major bank
 Children:
Michael, 37; Nicole, 29; Marchelle, 24 and Morris (TJ), 22; Granddaughters Mykailah, 8 and Londyn, 3.
 When were you diagnosed?
October, 2006 (You should’ve seen the faces in the waiting room when I went for my mammogram. Priceless!)

How was it found?

While wrestling with Mykailah, as good Papa’s do, she hit me in the chest and I felt a lump. (I pinned her, BTW)
Do you have a family history of breast cancer?
I lost a great aunt to breast cancer.

As a person what gives you your strength?

My beautiful wife Myrna, who believes in me no matter how big a butthead I am. Not to mention my children and, especially, my grandchildren. And my friends, like Felicia, a one year cancer survivor herself, who kept reminding me everything would be alright. And Margaret K, my “Mom”, who always reminds me that I matter.
Briefly state in your own words something about yourself that you want people to know.
I suppose the fact that I’m a sentimentalist. I can come off as a bit of a hardass, but I can be a real softie, especially where my girls are concerned. They are the reason I’m doing this. If I can help raise awareness about breast cancer and maybe extend the life of even one person, what could be better than that? It would be well worth me tripping over my two left feet.

One person CAN make a difference......be that person
